Understanding Life Systems - Biodiversity	Biodiversity includes diversity of individuals, species, and ecosystems.	Classification of the components within a diverse system is a beginning point for understanding the interrelationships among the components.	Because all living things are connected, maintaining diversity is critical to the health of the planet.	Humans make choices that can have an impact on biodiversity.
Learning Goal	I will understand that all living things are connected and maintaining diversity is linked to the health of the planet.
Essential Questions	What is biodiversity? How do we preserve biodiversity? What makes living things living? How can we organize living things to help us understand them? What impact does biodiversity have on natural systems and humans?

Understanding Structures and Mechanisms - Flight	Flight occurs when the characteristics of structures take advantage of certain properties of air.	Air has many properties that can be used for flight and for other purposes.	Aviation technology impacts society and the environment.
Learning Goal	I will understand that the properties of air enable flight and determine aviation design.
Essential Questions to Guide Inquiry	What are the properties of air that enable flying? How do living things and man-made devices take flight? How do the properties of air impact aviation design? What is the impact of aviation technology on the environment and economy?
