Friday the 13th - Dun dun dun

Today we shared appreciations for::
  • people who helped us with writing ideas
  • tribe members who helped each other stay on task
  • some students just appreciated being in the class and not having to move like some other classes
  • friends working together to make cards for Mr. Carter (our custodian of 14 years has left our school to work at Central)
  • and for friends who shared books with others.

In Art, we learned about the 7 elements of design. We are going to learn about the art principle called balance this year.
In health and phys. ed., we started finding out our heart rate and monitoring our fitness. We are doing fitness stations, like bean bag relay and standing long jump.
In all of our subjects, we are thinking more about fairness and we read Mr. Peabody's Apples by Madonna. We also talked about our digital footprints and how to be careful what we put on the internet.

In French, we are reviewing and practising numbers, days of the week and months of the year.

Next week we are going to read The Dot! Come back to find out what we did with the book.

Dear Families, welcome to our grade 6 blog. This is the students of 6Pike blogging here. We will be telling you about what we are learning each week in our class. We had a great first week of school and have a very awesome and fun teacher! For the past week, we have been using technology to present our work in Math and our Me in a Bag using: iPad, Apple TV, laptop, and a data projector. We also used the clicker in a "get to know you" activity on the very first day.

We started to explore our Math kits and had different roles. We shared the use of each manipulative and presented using iPads. We discovered interesting facts like how callipers are used for measuring. We have been doing multiple activities to get to know each other and ourselves for example our own "Facebook" profile (on paper only!).
Come back next week, to read about how we are organizing our classroom library and see what else we are up to!

I Care About You and What You Think

Students, I am so happy to have you in my class. I have been wondering about all of you: what you like, what your interests are, what amazing things you will accomplish this year, etc. I created this survey to help me get to know you better and to help me be a better teacher for you. Please take your time and try to answer all of the questions. I am really looking forward to reading your responses!

Survey - What Do You Have to Say?

Welcome!

Welcome to our Grade 6 Blog!

Use this site to stay connected to our class and what is happening in our school. The students and I will be posting news, information and questions here. We encourage you to respond and interact with the site.

This year students will be developing 21st century skills: collaboration, communication, character development, creativity, critical thinking and citizenship, through frequent and responsible use of technology in the classroom (Fullan, 2007. Great to Excellent).

During the first week of school students 'click' in their answers using our classroom performance system and complete online surveys to get to know each other and reflect on their learning styles. Come back weekly to see what else we are doing to develop our 21st century skills!
